Juan Machado House - Circa 1912

Augustin Machado was a wealthy Mexican rancher who owned much of the land that is now Lake Elsinore. He raised cattle, sheep and more in the mid 1800's near the big curve where Grand Avenue turns into Riverside Drive. The Butterfield Stage Coach stopped here at "Laguna" or Rancho Laguna. Augustin Machado died in 1865 and the land waas divided among his children. Juan, the eldest son, owned the adobe house you see here. The Machados sold the land to the Sumner Brothers in 1873.
